Yesterday I headed a long way from Siem Reap Cambodia into the countryside and saw a land that time had truly forgotten. There were no power cables and telephone masts to be seen. No cell stations and no TV’s. just rice fields and people glad to see a visitor from another land.
There was a real sense of poverty in these areas and I understood why there are so many NGO’s in Cambodia. I felt safe with my guide and it was only after I ventured into a small field that I remembered to be careful as there are so many unexploded mines and bombs still in the ground.
I feel lucky that I managed to capture simple local life as we wondered down dirt paths dodging massive holes filled with water for the irrigation of rice fields.
